Ahhh...the day after Thanksgiving. I woke up still feeling pretty fat and happy. After a breakfast of champions, leftovers from Thanksgiving, Veronica took us into Stockholm.
Living in a big city with mass transit is something Keith and I are envious of. After living in California and now in rural Tuscany, we appreciate the train system and really enjoy using metro when we have a chance. The metro in Stockholm was very nice.
Keith LOVES every chance we have to use mass transit.
It is so nice to have friends that you can fall back so easily into everyday life with. I was really enjoying having my Veronica around!
I'll admit that I like the metro even better when there aren't many people using it...

Veronica took us right into the center of Stockholm and showed us the public library where there is a special area just for children. We were walking through and horrified realized that we hadn't taken off our shoes like everyone else. We quickly made our way back to the front area and took off our shoes like every other good Swedish citizen.

We were right in the center of the shopping district, underneath all this was the metro station we had come up from.

There were markets everywhere selling fresh produce and flowers.
Veronica took us inside and down to another central and more international market with all kinds of tantalizing offerings.
...and of course TONS of fish...

OH - the fish!

We walked around to get a good look at everything they had to offer and then tried to whittle down our choices. There were SO many great things to choose from! Of course we had to try some of the fish, especially gravad lax, my personal favorite. Veronica led us upstairs to an empty table with an excellent view of the market outside.

The food was delicious! I never thought it was possible but the best gravad lax I ever had proved to be too much for me to possibly eat AND I think I'm all set for some time with gravad lax. So rich but Yum! We walked along the main shopping district for a little bit doing some heavy window shopping/drooling before we had to head back to the house.

Veronica had arranged for a babysitter so we all could go out on the town for the night! Back in the day, when Veronica and I were roomies, I used to ask her to do my makeup all the time. Somehow, it seems so much more "exotic" when someone else does it. Veronica asked me to do hers tonight and although I've never really done someone else's makeup, I was game to try.
Yep, I'm guessing no one is ever going to ask me to do their makeup again. Veronica was nice enough to not say much but when I asked her later she said that she indeed had to re-do her makeup, poor girl. I'll try not to quit my day job to become a makeup artist. Woohoo - night out on the town! We caught to the bus to the metro and headed into Stockholm.

Amazingly there were a LOT of people still out and about!

Jonas led us to a place where there is a plaque in the sidewalk commemorating the assassination of their Prime Minister in 1986.
To this day is still considered an unsolved crime and there are a lot of conspiracy theories surrounding it very similar to the Kennedy assassination. Veronica had made arrangements for us to go to a Lebanese restaurant, Sahara, for appetizers and also where they had hookah pipes and various flavored tobaccos to try.

We ordered some martinis, asked for the menu for the hookah, and soon found out that whoever Veronica had spoken with didn't understand a word Veronica had said and not only was there no hookah there weren't even appetizers because they only were offering an expensive smorgasbord for dinner. Veronica was pretty upset and let them know exactly what she thought of it. They were trying to tell us that since we had drinks and were sitting down we would have to also order the dinner, to which we all said, "Hell no!". We finished our drinks, paid up and left. GOODbye!
Jonas quickly came up with a new restaurant for dinner, the Press Club, well known for its many, many beers.

They also had a huge amount of Belgium beers so I ordered a sour cherry Chimay. Unfortunately it was so sour I had to order something different and hand off the Chimay to Keith.
We shared an appetizer of mussels with garlic and bacon that were quite amazing.
I had a fish dish that was so incredibly tasty. Everyone's dishes were really good.
 Awww...what a cute couple!
Keith was in love with his dish, smoked spicy sausage and some tasty au grautin potatoes!
All right, enough with the cuteness!
What a great dinner! The night wasn't over yet, next stop, Sky Bar!
If you didn't know, Sky Vodka comes from Sweden and there is a famous Sky Bar with a 180 degree view of Stockholm! The bar was pretty crowded but we found a couple seats at the window with a great view.

Good cocktails, fun people watching and upbeat music. I give it two thumbs up!
As they say, all good fun must come to an end, full and happy we made our way back home. Gotta love public transportation!

What a fun night! Thanks Veronica and Jonas for showing us a night on the town!
