I was up in Washington experiencing EXTREMELY beautiful weather, a rare oddity but a little something I think is just my fate being that I grew up there with webbed feet a very long time ago.
I was having a REALLY great visit with my parents, probably bugging them to death but just enjoying the time we were spending together and having a lot of fun. One of the great things about my parents is that they like all different kinds of food, as long as it is tasty. Hmm...guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree! My mom loves sushi; dad enjoys bento boxes, so we always try to go a couple times to a nearby restaurant we all adore. Last time I had visited I scoped out this little "hole-in-the-wall" sushi bar that had been written up in the Seattle times that was very close to where they live. It was fabulous, VERY undiscovered with a really nice staff and some of the best sushi I have ever had. They are fortunate to visit it a little more often than I can, not being in town all that often but when we are in town I could almost camp out there. Dad had his bento box with some admittedly tasty teriyaki salmon and beef but with the sushi, who has time to order teriyaki? Mom let me do the ordering and I choose a nice variety of rolls, including some spicy ones that she enjoyed even though she isn't one for spicy. The queen of all sushi here is the tower of cut sashimi which just melts in your mouth and has a soy/rice vinegar sauce that has you contemplating licking the plate. It is THAT good. I shared a large Saki with my mom as well as helped my dad out with his large Sapporo beer. It was a win-win for everyone involved! I was dying to order more sushi, it was SO tasty, but there was no way I could manage to eat one more thing. Trust me, I tried. I think we might have rolled on home and all sat around, stuffed and satisfied, until one by one we gave up the fight and made off for an extremely restful sleep.|
