So I was back in Washington state, visiting my parents and preparing to attend my 20th high school reunion. I had a little free time and was going to lunch with a very nice couple I had met in Cortona who also are subscribers to this blog. They originally had offered to take me to an Italian restaurant that they like but when I am in the U.S. I usually stick to the rule of eating everything but Italian, well unless my mom is cooking!
Before my lunch thought I was going to be taking a personal tour of Boeing, where my father works and visit the 777 production line, something I was really looking forward to.
Unfortunately I wasn't allowed to take any pictures inside Boeing and had to get through some major security to be allowed inside. My father had arranged for one of his workmates to meet me and give me the tour since only employees can have visitors and my father contracts.
The tour was nothing short of absolutely fascinating. Since my father worked for Boeing all while I was growing up I had heard much about the making of airplanes and even knew how to fly before I learned how to drive since all of his friends had planes. Seeing the production line on the huge 777 plane was just mind boggling and utterly amazing. The guy who brought me through was a fountain of information and was able to tell me where every part that went into the plane was from. Seeing the plane in all the different stages was just crazy and incredible when you think of all the work that goes into it to get it out the door. I REALLY wished I could have taken pictures but probably even that couldn't have done justice to walking around all these planes taking shape and seeing it all in action. Thanks guys!!
I met my new friends near Seattle and we shared a glass of wine while catching up and discussing their upcoming trip in May 2007 to Cortona. They had numerous questions I tried to answer and I could tell how excited they were to be planning to spend almost 2 months in Cortona. It's kind of fun to have all the information I do now as a skilled tourist of the area. ;)
They took me to a nearby Thai restaurant in the University district they had heard good things about. It was a really simple place but as I have learned many times these places are little gems and this one was no exception.

We ordered a ton of different dishes just to be able to try a bit of everything and it all was quite tasty. It was all I could do to not stuff myself, it had been so long since I had Thai food and I absolutely love the different flavors and sauces.

We continued talking over lunch, spending most of the time discussing things to do in Cortona and just various Italian subjects, funny, all the while eating Thai food! It was a very enjoyable lunch and I'm glad I was able to find the time to meet up with my new friends. Thank you again!

I made it back to Edmonds in time to be able to whisk mom from work and we all headed out to run some errands and work on my list of things I needed to purchase to bring back to Italy.
Later that evening we walked down to a local restaurant/wine bar Olives that we all enjoy going to when I come into town. It is a great place to try Washington wines and try tasty tapas style dishes while enjoying the ambiance. We had a lot of fun talking and just hanging out.
