Believe it or not, I actually have more family! It seems that I am normally posting about visiting with members from Keith's family, being that there are more than 200 relatives in southern California alone, it isn't surprising. But I have a few extended family members who keep in touch with me via email that I was finally going to visit with today.
My aunt and cousin had invited me out for lunch and we met up at my aunt's apartment nearby. She is a "free-spirit" in every sense of the word and also an artist. I had commissioned her to make some wine glass charms for me, similar to ones she had given me a few years ago, made by using decorative beads and wire wrapping. She had made quite a few and I pretty much ended up taking them all. They are very different from normal charms as they wrap up the stem of the glass and I also like having ones made by someone in my family besides the fact that they are really pretty. How many more excuses can I come up with for taking the whole lot?! They took me to a local Mexican restaurant for lunch that makes SUPERsize burritos. The restaurant is called Gordito's and specializes in being fresh and really good. I am convinced that the secret to good Mexican food is freshly grilled meat and cilantro in every dish. Good beans and rice don't hurt, throw in a little hot sauce and I'll love you for life! I actually don't like flour tortillas so I had a few really tasty tacos. My aunt and cousin split a burrito and even then they weren't able to finish it. I think it could have fed a family of four! My aunt preferred not to be pictured, something to do with a witness protection program or something... (insert obligatory laugh at joke here). I had a lot of fun catching up with both my aunt and cousin and highly encouraged both of them to try to come visit us in Italy at some point. I really hope they will. After lunch I headed back to ... visit ... with more family! MY parents! I'm really enjoying all this family time. Later that evening we attended the Edmond's Artwalk, where many of the local stores stay open late, have wine and other appetizers while featuring local artists. It was really nice to be out milling around with everyone else who was out for the event. We strolled around the little downtown area and hit just about every stop, taking advantage of the free wine tasting. Hey, art always looks better with a glass of wine in your hand! It soon was closing time so we slowly headed for home, on foot, and then had a late dinner with some great local Washington wine. Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register.
