We decided to be wild and crazy on a Friday afternoon and head out for a weekend in the countryside!

A friend of ours was in the U.S. but had offered up her country farmhouse to us for a getaway if we were so inclined.  We'd been so busy that it seemed like the perfect solution for a quick vacation.

The lighting was gorgeous as we were driving out.

The air has been so clear lately that the sunsets are simply astounding.

The wasn't much daylight left and I was hoping we could arrive before sunset.  We didn't have too far to go, just outside of Monte San Savino, but the sun was fading fast.
That's o.k.; we were definitely enjoying the view!

Porter was really digging the view from the back seat.  He REALLY likes riding around in the back of the Saab. Yep, no bad seat in this car!

Soon we arrived and it was definitely dark.  After moving in with WAY too many things I had brought for a couple days, we popped open a bottle of wine and relaxed for a little bit.  Soon we were off for dinner at a fantastic restaurant nearby and split a lovely pasta and tagliata (cut steak) that was done to perfection.

After heading back we stoked up a fire in the HUGE fireplace and got Porter situated with his bed in a premium warmth spot.  He was a very happy dog.

Keith was enjoying the fur shrug a little too much but who cares when you are next to a huge fireplace on a cold night?  It was just lovely.

It doesn't hurt to also have some nice wine to drink while sitting in front of the big warm fireplace.  Mmm ... I'd be purring now if I was a cat.
