Every year in May there is a special event that occurs all over Italy.  It is Cantine Aperte, the last Sunday of May when many of the wineries throw open their doors and welcome the public in to taste.

Amazingly, Keith and I have never attended this event.  A very surprising thing for two people known for their love of wine! (otherwise known as "winos"!).  We headed out as respectably early as possible to be drinking wine to join in the fun.

We made it to four wineries, only hitting one that we had been to before.

Good choice as they were blowing out one of our favorite wines for half price for Cantine Aperte day only! A lot of the wineries were offering up small dishes of cheese and salami for purchase along with the tasting of wine.

We found a new winery; of course I can't remember the name, near Montepulciano in a very modern building.

Did I mention we brought Murphy along for the ride?  He guarded the wine in the car most of the time...

The winery was pretty impressive although I can't say the same about their wines.

Murphy was the star of the day, enjoying his time out and meeting people along the way.

At the last winery we visited we may have met a new girlfriend for him; the owners were very interested in possibly mating their lab with him.  She came out to visit although she was playing very hard to get with Murphy, nipping at him if he got too close.  He didn't bat an eye and just kept trying to entice her to play every once in a while.

We headed back to the house late in the day with more boxes of wine to add to our collection.  No wine shortages in our house anymore!
