Yeah - it was finally time to head for warmer weather and visits to family and friends! We were off for a few weeks to southern California!
As usual, we weren't traveling light. We had numerous gifts and requested items we were bringing back for family and friends knowing that we would also fill up the space with our personal items on the way back. I was very lucky and by some fluke found a business class seat available for the same mileage as coach. You don't have to tempt me twice! Keith already had a ticket back, also on Air France, but was due to arrive 3 hours earlier. My later flight was late (typical for Air France) and they had a person who's sole job was to get me through customs and to the plane in as little time as possible. Our flight ended up being delayed so as I was sitting in my nice comfy seat a stewardess came up to me and very discreetly asked me if I was traveling with my husband. It caught me a bit off-guard and all I could think was that we called up some type of security red flag by traveling on different flights. She asked me again if there was any way that maybe my husband was on the same flight and I told her that only if he had missed his flight could he possibly be on the flight. Well, come to find out, Keith was on my flight! I tried to get him moved up to my section but they wouldn't let him due to the extreme price tag difference between business and coach, although they did let him up to share an after dinner drink with me. Business class was very nice on Air France and the food and wine were quite good. Being able to fully recline your seat was an amazing experience, one I probably won't get to have in the future since I just can't see the point of paying so much for business class when there are other more important things, like shoes and purses, to purchase. Once into LAX and through customs we grabbed a Starbucks coffee before heading out to pick up our rental car. Imagine our surprise when we saw the color of the rental car (check out Keith's matching shoes)... I quickly tuned into my old favorite radio station and reconfirmed the fact that they are still playing the same rotation they have been for the last 5-10 years... Of course with our delayed flight and by the time we picked up the rental car traffic was stop and go on the freeways. Welcome home! It took us a good hour to get out to Keith's parents house, where we were staying for a few days, which was actually pretty fast considering how bad the freeways can get. They had dinner waiting for us and we breathed a BIG sigh of relief to sit down with family, enjoy a nice bbq'd meal and catch up. As we sat around the dinner table talking, some of Keith's siblings stopped by to say hello and we had a very nice and relaxing evening catching up with everyone. Amazingly we were able to stay up until just about midnight before CRASHING into a jet-lagged induced sleep. Only registered users can write comments. Please login or register.
