Just outside of Montalcino is the wonderful Ristorante Boccon Divino.

At first glance it seemed rustic but as we entered I could see it was a just slightly modern but very gourmet.

Of course being in the Montalcino area we to have a Brunello with dinner.  I chose an unknown one on the menu and out waiter confirmed it was very good and also encouraged us to try the 1997 vintage saying it was still fantastic with plenty of flavor.

I enjoy watching the method they use to present the wine.  It consists of 3 glasses, two that will be rinsed with a tiny bit of the wine and one glass that carries the now dirtied wine that has been rinsed out of the new glasses.  One time when the glasses were all prepared right in front of me I became confused and almost drank from the "rinse" glass.  Party foul!

The wine was absolute fantastic, old enough that there wasn't much taste of fruit in it but still had a lot of complex flavors.

They started us off with a little tomato pure that also had some bread and oil in it that was really tasty and light.

Keith ordered a mushroom soup with shrimp that was just a hearty blend of flavors and rustic while yet being somewhat nouveau.

I had a taglini with truffles and cream that was really divine.  The portion was small but necessarily so because it was quite rich.

Keith and I shared the Black Angus tagliata which was basically a cut steak cooked rare and was so tender that you really didn't need a knife.  The meat was cooked over an oak grill and had the toasted taste but with hardly any other seasonings so that the full flavor of the meat really came out.

For a side dish we had wild asparagus that was really a meal in itself but quite nice with an interesting seasoning I couldn't quite place.

The restaurant was fantastic with plenty of items to tempt everyone's tastes and a great local wine list. The staff was very friendly and bilingual and they also had a very nice outside patio area to sit at with beautiful views of the valley.
