General Information -
For invaluable detailed instructions on coming to Italy, moving to Italy or just help with basic everyday life in Italy, check out Expats in Italy. I find their forums VERY helpful.
Another great site that has a lot of information, especially with travel and vacation information is Slow Travel. Their message boards have a lot of great information, especially for the first time travelers. Wanted in Rome has a lot of Rome specific information, but is in English and is a great source for news and information about events and cultural activities throughout Italy and has a large classified advertising section
Europe Map Sites -
-
My favorite mapping software to use in Europe is Michelin. They really can pinpoint addresses on a map and offer driving directions, traffic conditions, weather and what services are located neaerby.
Rental Property Finder -
We found our apartment that we rent with a long term lease on Homelidays. They have thousands of properties available in many countries all over the world. When I found properties I liked, I would send the owner an email in Italian asking if the property was available for a long term lease and what our requirements for an apartment were. The other website I found a lot of listings on, but not as user friendly, was Casa. Train Schedules -
The Trenitalia website is in English and quite helpful in trying to figure out timetables and connections both within Italy and to most of Europe. You can also actually purchase tickets online. I also like to use the German Die Bahn website which not only gives timetables but easy to find pricing information as well.
